Hi,

I found this tree in my backyard (Sydney, Australia) I just wondering if someone can tell me what sort of fruit/tree this is?

Thank you.

Pretty sure it's deadly nightshade aka belladonna. Both leaves and berries are highly toxic.

This is a Solanum species. When you say 'tree' is it actually a large herbaceous plant rather than a tree, i.e. without any permanent woody structure? It looks like S nigrum aka Black Nightshade. Personally I would not eat it as there is so much controversy over its edibility.

BTW Deadly Nightshade aka Belladonna is not a Solanum but a separate species, Atropa belladonna, which looks quite different and is definitely poisonous. The confusion between the various 'nightshades' is widespread.

Here is a link that might be useful: Solanum nigrum
