I started strawberry from seeds about 1 month ago (alpine and fresca) and after they grew 2 tiny leaves they seem to stop growing at all. We are in late spring/early summer now with day temperature around 30C/86F and around 18C/65F at night. Is it normal? Anything I can do to jumpstart them? They are sown in a re-used food container with lid. I keep the lid open after they sprout and lightly mist them each day.

Hi BlackMothra, I don't have an answer for you, but I'm having the same issues with my germinated Alpines - the first set of tiny rounded leaves on a 1-inch skinny stem and then NOTHING for weeks! I have mine indoors and pay much attention to humidity and ventilation - they are so fragile that one day without misting may do them all in! They get indirect light during the day plus 1/2 hour of direct outdoor sun every morning - I even set my timer so I won't forget them! I was wondering how long yours just "sat there" - did they finally begin to grow or did you lose them? Anyone else with experience raising strawberries from seed please feel free to comment! Ann

Seedling update: Here's a current picture of white soul seedlings. These were planted 5/1/14, they germinated within 10 days, and were carefully pricked into individual containers in June. End of June they were gradually acclimated to outdoors, so they've had a month to grow yet still look incredibly puny! Seeds obtained from a reputable source - the Strawberry St0re. Can someone with experience comment on whether this is normal? Thanks

I germinate a lot of seeds. And I gave up on strawberries. As you have observed they just seem to sit there.
