Too bad you don't have a greenhouse for plants that nice. But that won't speed up fruiting by much and probably won't keep all those nice leaves in place. I do like to keep leaves on where I can. Most SHB will retain at least some leaves esp if vigorous and dark green. The SHB types like Star and Santa Fe that need 400+ hrs chilling usually drop most leaves even without a freeze.

Do yours drop all leaves in the garage? How dark in there?

Not totally dark, but pretty dark. We have a 2 car garage with the translucent plastic paneled doors, but they face west.

Last year they dropped most of their leaves slowly throughout the winter. There will be a mess of leaves on the floor fur shur :-)

Mine is going into the garage for the first winter here. It was a spindly looking thing when it arrived this spring. Still is compared to other cultivars. Seems to have vigor though

I was not impressed with the growth the first year, but this year it really took off. Mine started really small also, just a little stick with a few roots and leaves. Good luck.

Thanks Ed, yours look good now! Yeah with most plants if they do not die the first year, you probably are doing well! Some exceptions. I had the NHB Chandler, and the first year that thing grew like crazy, the 2nd year it produced over 50 berries. I like the plant for it's growth habits. The berries are not bad, but take a long time to ripen. Has good hang time though! The canes are thick too, it's going to be a huge plant.

Oh, a few of my plants threw late flowers too. One in ground did too.I removed them.
