Next year I'm planning to start a small nursery to support my edible landscaping business.

I'd like to buy all the fruit trees I estimate I'll use on jobs next year in one large bare root order.

Would it be possible to pot the trees that won't be planted during early spring jobs so I can use them later in the year on early summer and fall installations?

I understand that bare roots are best in the ground before they break dormancy, but I've planted potted trees year round with good success. And you can only heal in bare roots for so long, right?

Nurseries around here sell potted fruit trees (which I assume they or the nursery they got them from containerized bare roots) for a mint that people buy and plant throughout the whole year.

Seems like containerizing my own bare roots would be a much cheaper way to have planting stock for late spring and fall jobs.

What are the risks I'm not considering?
