 o
A Peach x Apricot hybrid, or a new Apricot sport?

Does this tree looks like a peach x apricot hybrid, or like a new apricot sport?

The tree is 8 months old, five feet tall, and it already has flower buds.

The tree originated from an F2 open- pollinated moorpark apricot.

About 6 years ago, the same mother apricot tree produced a seedling which appeared to be half peach. The leaves were oval-eliptical, they had the resemblance of that of a peach, and they were 7 inches long by two inches wide. Sadly, the tree died four months later.

I don't know but being in such a small pot is not very good for the tree that is for sure. It looks terrible!

What I don't understand is all the serration on the leaves - neither peaches nor cots have that. I would guess plum cross from those, and the elongated tip has something to do with how the plum genes affect the tip on apricot leaves (they have a little concave tip on them, unlike plum/peach).

Drew,

I will repot it this year.

Scot,

If this turns out to be a plum x apricot cross, my best guess is that it got pollinated by my mariposa plum since they are only 25 feet apart.

Definitely looks like a hybrid, but that's about as much as I would venture to say...

Scot is right, it definitely looks like a plum x apricot hybrid;

I have three mariposa plum seedlings, and just like my hybrid, they have an enlogated tip. Based on these observations, I conclude that my apricot hybrid pollen parent is my mariposa plum.
