| If possible, I would like to, so it doesn't break bud too early in the garage. Am thinking about grafting it in the spring and want it to stay dormant. If it matters, we live in apple country here east of Lake Ontario, but the winters can be frigid and snowy. I want to make sure it lives through the winter. As you can see I dug a hole for the pot and wanted to post this before I filled in the hole. The seedling is 1 year old and about 5 feet high and grew well this year. |

| Apple seedlings are hardy. In your zone the method presented should work. I'd pile some extra soil over the pot just for the winter or dig a deeper hole. |
|
| The angle of the picture might be a little deceiving. The top of the pot is level with the ground. Should I still go a little deeper? |
|
| It's fine but fill in space so the ground can keep it warm. You don't want the air barrier. |

| Yes definitely! I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track so I wouldn't have to dig it up :-) It will be filled in well. Thanks guys. I'm really psyched about attempting a graft in the spring. |
