apple identification help

Any guesses at what this apple might be? I bought it from a Canadian department store, its 8 years old now, and just had its second year of fruiting. I lost the tag a long time ago, but had it stuck in my head that it was a Jonagold. Now after two years of fruiting i don't think its a Jonagold anymore. It has quite large apples that start to get some red blush in August (first photo), but that all fades to yellow by October (second photo). I've tried eating it at all times (Aug-Nov) and have never liked it. I suppose it might be a mute point, as i plan to cut it back and graft some new varieties onto it next spring, but still curious.

looks like yellow delicious to me. It used to be a very common variety sold at the box stores.

I'm pretty sure those are two different varieties of apples. Any chance you bought a multi-grafted tree?

The yellow one does look like Golden Delicious, but if so, I'm surprised it didn't taste good.

thanks for the responses. It is a single varitey tree, all the apples on this tree have grown the same way. My other mature tree is a golden delicious and the apples are smaller and very good tasting. The apples on this tree are very large (3.5" wide by 3" high). Also the stems are very short on the apples. Here is another picture, this one from early October last year.

Is it acid tasting? Maybe a good baking apple.

Seems I remember Wolf River looking something like that. The flesh is soft and tart and the apples are huge. To me only good for baking.
