A friend gave me a start of a fig that's in his yard. He started it this spring. Mine sprouted fruit in mid summer while still in the nursery pot. Any guess as to the variety? bk

This is only a guess and it may be too green, but based upon location, open eye, pyramid shape and red interior I would guess Desert King. [supposedly cold hardy] King - A medium-sized greenish yellow fig with http://www.aces.edu/pubs/docs/A/ANR-1145/ANR-1145.pdf
Here is a link that might be useful: Desert King Fig (DWN)

I have Desert KIng in a 20 gal. pot and it produced fairly well after overwintering in the greenhouse. It is hard to tell the size of the fig in your picture, but the fruit my plant produced were small, not much bigger than my thumb. Also the leaves of your plant don't look like the Desert King I have. Given that you are in Texas and going by the shape of the leaves, I wonder if you have a Brown Turkey which is a very popular fig in Texas. Your leaves look a lot like my Brown Turkey.
