Just heard about this and its apparently hardy to zone 4? Has anyone grown this before or seen if it transfers hardiness over to scion?

I assume you mean prunus davidiana. I don't think any rootstock transfers significant hardiness to scion. There have been some attempts to cross-breed davidiana with persica (regular peach) to get some of its desirable traits but I don't think any of those efforts had good results.

If you want a peach in zone 4 get some aluminum bubble wrap insulation and build a tent cover from it and cover the tree each winter. Its really not a lot of work, maybe a couple hours to make the tent and each spring and fall an hour to take on and off.

Yes i am talking about P Davidiana. Was hoping to get even a few degrees of hardiness, particularly at the buds, but am not sure exactly how or how effective it would be. Maybe I can try my hand at breeding peaches? They dont take long to flower from seed correct?

Yes peaches are some of the fastest. You would have to do many generations, the problem is the initial crosses are always very bad tasting and so you need to keep back-crossing the most hardy ones with peach. Comparing to hardy plum breeding, there when you do the initial cross you at least get something you would not mind eating.

It would be hard enough to get any peach to flowering age here without some protection, or some crafty pruning and siting. Im just experimenting to see what i can get away with.

If you want peach flowers just get scions from further south and put in water. You don't need many flowers to get enough pollen.
