The weather has been so bad I don't think we will get any fruit in the deep south. Early this year we had some realy cold weather for a short time. Almost all of my fruit trees went dormant. Now the weather has been so warm the figs are putting new leaves on. The peaches are budding out. I have all different fruit trees they all look like it won't be long. Next month is the coldest month of the year. I know more cold weather is coming all buds will freeze. Nothing with the weather is looking good. No chill hours to speak of. Not a good out look from where I stand. Hope every one is having better weather.

John, That's terrible. Are peaches really looking like they are going to flower this time of year? I can't imagine they could with so few chill hours. That might in fact be your saving grace (for the peaches). My understanding is many stone fruits are reluctant to bloom if they haven't met chill. But I really know little about it because we have the opposite problem here. We get so much chill, so early, that peaches and apricots "wake up" at the first little warm spell in the spring and therefore very susc. to spring frosts.

John I'm not quite as bad as you are, but I do have one pear that's close to breaking dormancy. We had such a cold November that just about everything has met its chill hour requirements. Everything is almost 2 months ahead of where we should be, at this time of year. So much for global warming. I forgot, we're now supposed to call it climate change. I guess we've been using our bar bq grills too much. |

Here in the midwest we had a warm December too, well if you want to call 30F warm! Yeah I use a solar panel BBQ these days. So yeah so far so good here.

My figs are starting to bud out on a few. So far none of my other trees have tried to leaf out yet. I should have plenty of chill hours this year.

My figs are leaving out also. The buds on the peaches have swollen but have not budded out. As long as they do not bloom I figure I will be ok. If it does get colder in early January it should stop the breaking dormancy. The good thing about being in upper zone 9a we should not get any weather that will kill buds.

In Houston z9a, we have not had any chill hours to speak of. Don't see peaches et al budding, but nothing is in dormancy so true, prob no fruit in 2015

I'm in central Alabama so i saw this and immediately inspected my peach trees. None are trying to bud. I have June Gold and Flordaking which always bloom in late feb. I did see where my Dorsett Golden apple IS trying to bloom. Last week i noticed some blooms on the Mutsu also.

Dorsett Golden scions bud in the refrigerator, so weather is not a factor with them; they just do, I'm not sure why. Same with Florida King.
