Nice video. Breeder did say I too many times when we would have been more appropriate.

A direct link would be nice on a posting like this. 10 seconds time for OP saves all reads 10 seconds. I know picky picky!

Here is a link that might be useful: Cornell apple breeding video

Fruitnut I don't even know how to do the direct link thing. How do you do it? You're right tho...ur being too picky...lol.

I agree with the "I" thing...I thought the very same thing and I'm sure it doesn't go unnoticed by those students putting in the hard work (probably the hardest). I notice in their published papers many of them are Chinese. You are exactly right...she should definitely be saying "WE" a whole lot more often.
Fruitnut did you see the link I posted in another thread (Fast grafting) about the interstem grafting? I had never before heard or read about intentionally placing a interstem graft upside down.

I jusr rewatched the video and fruitnut...you are even more right than I previously thought...man, this woman is all about herself. Bad move on her part imo to not be more inclusive of those working under her. We have this same thing going on where I work. Upper Mgmt. takes all the credit for all the good, but any mistake or oversight is squarely on you.

When I posted about my dislike for Goldrush and I couldn't put my finger on the "off-putting" taste to me I actually thought it tasted like soap (dish soap to be exact). I didn't communicate that because it sounded silly to me, and I thought I must be mistaken. It was enlightening to see that "soap" was one of the flavors she listed in her presentation. I don't want to dig up that post again, or rehash it, but it's at least a little comforting to know that other people have tasted "soap" in at least some apples.

Appleseed:

When making an original post you need to preview the post in order to get the link option. Right now as I'm typing a response the optional link URL is active. I don't need to preview to add a link. Not so when starting a new thread. It's usually good to preview the post first anyhow.

It isn't just her students, her team includes staff, mentors, growers, and colleagues. I'm sure she's working with growers on research and dependent to some degree on them for funding.

I'm still struggling to make the connection between her kids' higher education status and the future of apple breeding at Cornell.

She can fire goat and insect genes into the apple genome and come up with a great non-browning disease resistant extended storage perfectly crunchy apple that could be grown in china and shipped back here dirt cheap. This plan would pay for her higher education costs if the plant patenting came through and the fast food joints slopped it out to customers under her trade name.
