When I saw this tittle I was thinking I know Tony pushes his zone a little, but if he has managed Bananas at his location that would be impressive.

The real odd thing is as a rule the amount of stalk length of male flowers is equal to or greater then the length of female flowers. In the picture all you can see is female flowers which are the fruit. The males are at the very bottom....so in theory the stalk could be twice that long. I guess this is just an oddity of that type bananas.

Wow... That would feed a lot of people! One thing I'm jealous about of the tropics (near tropics) is being able to grow bananas. When I was down in Miami, they were growing all over....same with coconut palms.

Makes my bunch look small.....sadly this bunch is probably doomed.

Doomed? You can always eat them green, boiled like a potato in soups and when recovering from gastointestinal problems.

Looks like "Thousand Fingers" banana which produce a lot of very small bananas. I'm trying to grow bananas here in middle TN for the first time. I have four types in my greenhouse now. They are still small plants now. I imagine I'll need to cut the leaves back to fit them in there next year. We'll see how it goes :)

The longest banana cluster is in Spain. http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records-10000/largest-bunch-of-bananas/ I notice a spiral cut and paste. |
