I just received my order of trees and the company I ordered from included a free Mayhaw tree. I have never grown Mayhaw or tried any of them. From the what I've read the make great jelly. I was wondering where the best location would be to plant it. I have over 50 acres to play with so I can put it anywhere. I read they like wet areas I have some places near my ponds I could plant it if it would do best in a wetter area.

I believe mayhaw is in the same family of fruiting hawthorn. If so, the trees tolerate wet area. But it does not mean it should be planted in wet area. Its cousin, Chinese hawthorn, can be grown in almost any soil, even with some salt level. You should still give it more sun if you want to grow fruits.

"Its cousin, Chinese hawthorn, can be grown in almost any soil, even with some salt level. You should still give it more sun if you want to grow fruits. " All of my trees are in full sun so that is no problem. I have a couple pastures I have been thinking about using to plant some native fruit trees for the wildlife. The only problem I see is getting them enough water the first year to get them established.

Those tree are small to medium sized, not more than 40' tall. They are good for edge planting, or specimen planting. They develop interesting shape when old. They are perfectly good for wildlife planting. They spread more than height, and do not care about other grass competing. All plants need water first year to get established.
