It is important to know that the significance of time compatibility is strongly affected by the overall length of the growing season. Here in southern NY there is usually enough overlap for early flowering varieties to cross pollinate with later varieties. Pollination has not been much of an issue in general at orchards I manage where we depend on wild bees.

I believe that further south the earliest varieties tend to be finished by the time latest flowering ones have available pollen and need same.
