Borer Worm problems

I didn't know whether to post this in the organic forum, or the pest forum, but here we go. Just went outside in the garden and saw a bunch of mushy sap(?) around the base of my tree. I'd noticed balls of sap collecting around random parts of the trunk here recently (in the past couple of seasons), and the tips of the stems dying, but hadn't put two and two together. I pushed back the sap and dirt around the tree and picked a Borer worm out of the heap, but I get the feeling there's more.
The tree was planted two years ago in my butterfly garden, so I'd like to keep things organic. Is there a way to save the tree? Will the borers spread to surrounding trees and shrubs?

I don't ave pictures of the worm, but it, from what I've been able to search, looks like a "Lesser Peach Borer".

Here are some (bad) pictures of the tree-

RE: Borer Worm problems

Painting your trunk with cheap interior latex paint mixed with a bit of joint compound will deter the adult borers.
Surgery is usually the way to go after existing grubs in your tree- try inserting piano wire up their holes and spear 'em!
I've also read Neem oil isn't too pleasant for them if you can inject it into their channels.
The goo I see resembles 'gumosis'- not always a sign of borers- look for frass, exit holes, and cambium damage ton confirm.

The active holes can be fixed by probing with a paperclip to kill the worm, then they heal up. Stay active reading this forum. there is so much you don't know, that you don't know you don't know.
