Fruit trees few feet from inground pool ?

Few months ago I too started planting tropical fruit trees in my tiny backyard in Palm Beach County, FL.

Soon all space is used up, and I have been thinking about planting more in a narrow long space behind an inground pool (typical in South Florida), which will be 3 to 4 feet from the edge of the pool.

The problem is that I am afraid of the root system damaging the pool. I would much appreciate advice about this situation. Specifically

Any tropical or subtropical fruit tree or bush that has a weak root system to avoid the risk ?

Is 3 - 4 feet too close to the edge of the pool ? I would hate to have to pay 1000s in repairs in few years.

Is this a bad idea ?

Thank you all !

Never had a pool and don't have alligators, so I just swim in canals and ponds, so take this for what it is worth. If you keep the trees small, not over 10-12', then I wouldn't expect the roots to get big enough to create a hazard for the pool. My main worry would be the above ground parts--the branches, leaves, flowers, fruit or bird droppings that end up in the pool, requiring frequent cleaning.

Thanks beeone, I appreciate the advise. Will have to stick to smaller trees, and keep them small.

Use dwarfing rootstock, perhaps make a espaliered tree system,..this will force you to prune allot.

Also if you have to spray trees 4 ft from your pool, could the spray end up in the pool water?
