U.S.A winter 2014-2015 weather forecast

dennis1983

Hi

I have found many weather forecast for 2014-2015 in U.S.A. Many of those are made by people, many by television channel. Winter 2014-2015 is december 2014-february 2015. Those are video, i write some text from those in " " so it can be easier to get idea about coming winter. Those have good agreement that what kind of winter is coming. I write nickname or name who made the forecast and television channel i tried to find where the forecast came from. It good to know that those weather systems can be quite large in size so Baltimore forecast might be O.K. for Maryland and nearby areas. I have looked those videos, so i think i might write general information about coming winter, if someone don't look all those videos.

It looks like winter is colder than normal east of rockies and warmer than normal west of rockies. Snowfall is above normal east of U.S.A. So yes cold winter coming eastern U.S.A. this winter, like last winter but this winter is different than last winter in some way. This winter might be colder than last year. I thought what that means, i guess that means colder air moves more of east than last year. Last year colder air (compared to normal) was somewhere in central U.S.A, looks like colder air is next winter somewhere like Philadelphia, Baltimore area which there is more population. Area which more people are living. Looks like central U.S.A. is more warmer than last year, but still below normal. In eastern U.S.A. i have seen something like bitterly cold, arctic air and brutal cold, words describting winter weather. I think winter weather is splitted in 2 parts in eastern U.S.A. First it starts normal, or slightly above in december, in christmas or late this year it starts get cold. Looks like some might have white christmas in eastern U.S.A., snow might come just for christmas. There is then 6 weeks of time cold weather about from christmas to about early february. This winter might be weak el nino, there might be blocking pattern in east of U.S.A so storms (nor' easter) can't move so they go to mid atlantic area, on the other side cold air (polar vortex) might be coming more southerly again this year. This favors more snowier and colder weather in eastern U.S.A. Next winter might have southern jet stream which might get some ice storms in Tennessee area. Snow in in eastern U.S.A. might make cold worse, as it keeps daytime temperature down and there might be less warm ups in winter and could make colder night between storms. This might be rough winter for some in eastern U.S.A. Now let's go to forecast. I put first more interesting videos first, which have good image of U.S.A. weather or show clear way what kind of weather is coming.

This video is from Grreapsphos it have temperature, storm track, snowfall, overall map. Temperature map have blue color colder than normal and yellow warmer than normal.

Checking Accuweather their January forecast is relatively balmy for my area in SE New York state. Not a single low in the forecast that gets below about 7F. Used to be you'd likely get below -10F in January and -15 was still in the realm of a normal winter. Haven't seen those kind of temps for quite a while.

yay may be an expression of joy, yaaaaay may be an expression of sarcasm.
A white Christmas is all well and good, at least for those of you who get an inch or two and then watch it melt away. The copious amounts we tend to get in northern WI give me a sore back and cold feet. But if we hit 34 below for a week straight like last year, bring on the snow. Not much worse than frozen water and a frozen septic. Not to mention winterkill in the orchard....

You must get a lot colder than we do in MI because I have never seen -10 in 60 years except for last winter.

Drew, you shouldn't continue to believe your experiences are universal. Most residents of MN have seen much harsher temps than I have.

Well MN is brutal, WI too! I just said it never got that cold here. I wasn't really commenting beyond my experiences. I know better when talking to you. The U.P. is brutal too. Barron also, it's so strange up there. You can go miles and miles at night and not see a single light. Just so different for this Motown boy. The lakes protect us here. It's a very nice environment in southern MI. My in-laws retired in Cheboygan, so of course making it impossible for me to escape winter. Man some road trips up there have been near death experiences. I remember a couple times the road was pure ice, cars were moving sideways all over the place. We even have chains on gold carts here!
    {{gwi:77630}}

At my cottage you're on your own. EMS cannot get there in the winter. The river is too dangerous to cross
    {{gwi:2122082}}

No water service on the island. If you want to flush your toilet you have to harvest ice or snow. Ice is better.

Drew, you did say "we do in MI", which sounds like you are talking for the whole state.

Albany is about an hour north of me, but I'm in a relative cold spot, as far as actual temps (I'm well sheltered from wind). Albany is probably a close approximation of what I get. I can travel 10 miles to where temps are moderated by water and temps stay 5-10 degrees warmer as far as lows. Even if I walk a bit uphill the lows rise noticeably.

When I go over these records, although I was in the ballpark, I have to admit my memory had the contrast from past winters to recent ones more extreme than the data reveals. We all have selective memory- just different motivations.

That's really what I'm trying to communicate to you, Drew. Logic being pushed by our emotions is another aspect of this overall human trait. When we realize this about ourselves and each other it is easier to accept different opinions about things. But all of us highly opinionated types have to struggle with this because those other people just seem so stupid!

I apologize for playing the role of preacher here, and for possibly annoying you by pointing out the obvious and acting like you need to be taught anything from me.

Albany is cold! Holy Moly, so i was right on, you are colder than we are! Yeah MI is huge, so I don't speak for all of it. It's like the moon at the top! So different from here.
Detroit is about the same lattitude as Albany, but the lakes keep us warm. I'm actually 8 miles north of Detroit. 8 miles from 8 mile. We try to keep it simple here I'm off of 16 mile rd.

Yes Missouri (MO) and Montana (MT) mess me up.
Looking at some of our records we got down to -17 in 1994. I do not remember that? I wasn't growing fruit trees, so didn't pay attention. In 93 I opened a restaurant so was quite pre-occupied!

You opened a restaurant! Brave man.

Judging from your Dec. data, I'm guessing January and Feb have seen plenty of days below -10 in recent history, no?

Here Dec is relatively warm compared to those two months.

Actually it looks like you've gotten real cold much more recently than that. Did you see this list of low temps. Detroit is not much warmer than Albany as far as max lows.

Interesting comparing them. Fairly close. Looks like Albany is slightly colder except for last year. I certainly do not remember it being that cold so many times. Looks like we get more snowfall. Probably because of lake effect.
Looking at both long term, the changes are small. Looks like the same old same old. Some years worse, some years better. Hard to see any pattern there.

OK, so -10F can damage peach buds. In Detroit going back ten years we have 2 years or 20% of the time the maximum low is -10 or below. If you go back 20 years it's exactly the same 20%.
For Albany it's 40% at ten years and 20 years. So Albany is colder. But it is interesting that the numbers are very consistent. Thanks for posting that! That was very interesting to me. And it tells me I can expect some damage 20% of the time. Not that bad, worth growing peaches. And it's consistent, so that helps. Well worth growing only considering temps. Pest pressure, humidity etc, could make it better or worse. MI is 6th in peach production, so it's not that bad here. I have to keep telling myself that! 44 states produce less, so that says a lot.
That is on average, last year we probably were way down there low on the list. One year though we were 2nd. I guess the south had really bad weather and so we beat them one year.
    USA is third worldwide.

Well, I can attest to the fact that our part of the central plains have had tmemps very much above average for the last month so much so that I'm worried the fruit tree buds may not survive when reality suddenly sets in and the temps plunge to 0 or worse over night and stay there for a good long time as is normal. I don't recall any forecasts earlier for us to have these banana belt temps for so long.

If you look at average temps for January you will see that in recent history the numbers are too close to call. Not much water influence in Albany so swings are greater.

    Harvestman hi

I think those long range weather forecast are not so reliable if you look temperature, only general overview temperature in future. Don't pay too much attention some day temperature in future, further you go in future more there is uncertainties what affect weather.

My winter forecast is for precipitation of 2-3 inches (12/21 through 3/19), highs of 70F, lows of 40F, humidity 50%-70% -- except for 1-3 episodes of "Santa Ana" conditions lasting 3-5 days with high temps near 85F, lows near 50F, and humidity approximately 10%.

" I was thinking MI stood for Minnesota..."

"Yes Missouri (MO) and Montana (MT) mess me up."

Just want to say for the record I think Missouri got a raw deal. Missouri should be MI, not Michigan. After all, Missouri became a state before Michigan or Minnesota (Yes it's true Mississippi was founded even earlier, but that doesn't count because they succeeded from the Union. Plus Mississippi is too long of a word and too hard to spell.)

Maybe it became a state first but Detroit Is a lot older than St Louis. Detroit was founded in 1701 and St Louis in 1764.
So this area was colonized long before any place in MO.
The tall ships from around the world came to Detroit in 2001. Even The Niña from the Columbus odyssey visited Detroit on it's 300th birthday, I even took photos of it. Well a replica that incorporates all original parts that are left. Maybe The Niña will visit St Louis on it's 300th birthday in 2064.

Dennis, I only read them to get an idea on what the long term forecast is, not for daily or even weekly forecasts. Accuweather has quick and easy to read graphics that show 5 days at a time of highs and lows. In half a minute I have a sense of the long term trend a month ahead. Even that isn't all that accurate but its all we got.

Hermitian, who the hell asked you? You're not looking for more company are you?

"Even The Niña from the Columbus odyssey visited Detroit on it's 300th birthday."

Well, you do have me there. But I still say we have to come back to spelling, which should count for something. Missouri is phonetically easier to spell than Michigan, unless you are from Missouri, in which case it's pronounced Mizz-Ur-Ah.

But even then, Missouri is trying to change things through education. Look at how they spell their college - Mizzou. Education starts with young people. Eventually I think we will see the state of Missouri changing their spelling to match its pronunciation - Mizzurah. Then the postal abbreviation can be changed to MZ, better than MO, which of course is a phonetic reference to one of The Three Stooges.

Hermitian is indeed looking for company, but we are the wrong gender! I have seen photos of his place and I think he needs our help though. It's much too nice for one guy.
We would need a few weeks for assessment of the place, before we could even give any advice. Hermitian appears to be somewhat of a good cook too, so as long as he feeds us, we will do it out of the goodness of our hearts.

OK, now I will never forget MO as the correct abbreviation. My brother in law is from MO, and well if the shoe fits!
A few years ago I saw that arch. It is impressive and the building of it is funny. When they got to the top, it didn't line up! Ha! They figured a way. First thing they did is fire Larry and Curly! They hired some guy named Shemp. Later they added another Curly Joe.

Herm, that's funny because I was pruning apples today in Greenwich CT where the property has a few holes of a golf course- maybe 3 acres devoted to it. The land was formerly a commercial apple orchard and the 100 year old trees function now as, maybe, hazards.

I was raised in Topanga Canyon near Malibu and I willfully left the vicinity. Too crowded and too expensive for me. It was my heaven for almost a couple decades, though.
