Mosaic Rock

Just something I tried. It's supposed to be a snake on the rock, but I really should have left the rock bare with just the snake on it, instead of tiling the whole thing, as now it's hard to see the snake.

Lovely. Have you ever tried doing that on bowling balls. They look grat in a garden as well

Jill, I'd love to do a bowling ball, but where do you get the ball? I've never seen any. I wonder if bowling alleys would have any old chipped ones that they'd be willing to part with.............hmm?!

BTW, Jill, I responded to your email.

Yes, check bowling allies and goodwill!

I love your rock. It would look very nice nestled in some plants. :)

Thanks GariAnn, I'd like to do that but I used glue on the rock instead of silicon, so it's going to have to stay indoors. My next project, whatever it may be, will definitely for outdoors.

Laurel I will tell you all about glues when I see you. I think I may have a bowling ball you can have . for any one else looking here Welbond glue is excellent for indoors or out.

When you do a rock or a bowling ball.....what do you suggest to seal it with when you plan to place it outside??

RE: Mosaic Rock

I spent a little time with Jill, and she does wonderful work, for both inside and out. She suggested that sanded grout always be used for outdoors. Then seal with a grout sealer, or she also suggested a couple of coat of diluted weldbond (4-1).

I have also met Jill a few years ago too. I have one of her stain glass butterflies in a plant pot. I am now more interested in stain glass and have tried some. I have done some mosaics too. My favourite is window art! I have managed to get myself some old windows from garbage days in Ayr and am getting them ready to start my window art. I found a stained glass, mosaics teacher in Brantford, Ontario who gives me classes when my schedule permits (shift worker).

Don't forget to post pictures when you've done some of your window art! I'm looking forward to seeing them.
