What can I do with a 3ft high tree trunk?

Hi,

My son dragged home part of a tree trunk that is about 3ft high. Looks like a maple maybe with the bark on. I wanted to put it in the garden, but I would need to do something with the top of it, which was cut in a messy uneven way.

Not sure what will work the best. I don't really want to make a seat out if it. I thought of just putting a bird bath on top of it..maybe that is a little boring but I would have to even it out with a saw.

Whatever I do with it, I would like to preserve it and not do anything to it that will cause it to rot faster.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Adam

How big around is it?

Cut holes in it and sink pots in or just fill with dirt and plant in it. Holes in the side, holes in the top, ect.

Cut the height down to about 26", then Cast a 30" round top out of concrete for a great table. You could even sculpt the round top to look like the cross-section of a log (aka; Faux Bois), or apply tiles, marbles or whatever you like into the wet concrete. How 'bout it...any more ideas out there???

I have a similar situation with a tree I am going to cut down over the weekend. I was wonderinf if there is anything I could do with the wood other than throw it away. Would anyone be interested in the wood from a cut down tree; if so, should I cut the logs too certain lengths? I was considering doing something decorative with the trunk, but haven't found any good ideas yet!?

Here is a link that might be useful: Picture of Tree

Hi Tommy,

You can offer it for sale on craig's list. You can cut it and use it for a fireplace, or an outdoor fireplace. Using part of it to make something creative with. Sorry I don't know any more about usual length to cut neither do I have any other great ideas for something decorative tonight. Maybe someone else will add something. Did you do a GW search for tree trunk? I found a number of ideas that way.

good luck :-)
