out of control ground cover

After too many years of filling window boxes with vining plants that grew down to the ground, dug in and spread and general neglect of the flower/shrub bed below, I am trying to figure out how to get control back! I want to plant some knock out roses but I'm afraid they'll be strangled!

There are some plants there that I'm sure would do better but how do you get rid of the out-of-control ground cover without damaging the plants I want to keep?

Thanks in advance, Linda, NW Georgia...

RE: out of control ground cover

Hi Linda, I think you posted this in the wrong forum? To answer your question though, your best bet is to dig out the offensive vines that have taken over from your window boxes. I hope this helps some, even though it's a couple months late :0)
