Here is what I did with a coleus that I rescued from the clearance rack.

How did you do that????

When I found this plant it was 2 feet tall with a stiff stem. I just kept pinching the new growth to encourage it to branch out. It is now a little over 3 feet tall and it took me 6 months to train it.

Here is a link that might be useful: How to grow a Coleus Standard

WOW ,that's neat ! I'm definitely going to give that a try this year ! By the way you might want to look your plant up,(I could be wrong, and probably I am), but I believe you have a plant called perilla 'magilla',it strongly resembles coleus. The coleus I've grown has square stems, yours looks like it's round and woody. Whichever it is, it looks WAY COOL ! Thanks for sharing the great photo and link !

I vote for that plant being a Perilla also. It's a wonderful plant and handles the sun better than many coleus do. Beautiful standard!!! Just protect it when it gets windy. I have had many plants (coleus usually) snap off a nice big stem late in summer when a thunderstorm gusts through the area.

It's a perilla, but oh so nice what you've done!
