Crazy Lily

I have a 10+ year old lily, that is truly bizarre this year. The stem looked huge and the top was way larger than normal. When I checked it again a week later-the stem flattened out with ridges. It is about twelve stems completely fused together from top to bottom. The top has at least 70 flower buds.It is very healthy looking and will boom soon.Any ideas what happened to my lily?

Fasciation. Sometimes caused by a virus or chemical spray. Some are random mutations and are propagated. Here's a fasciated Cryptomeria in my garden. It is also known as a 'Cockscomb Cryptomeria. I have some sedums that are also fasciated.

RE: Crazy Lily

thank-you botann!Your information was very helpful.I posted a picture of the lily as it is now,and I will post another after it blooms.I also have sedum in the same bed, perhaps they will be different this year as well.I am hoping the lily stays healthy, and returns next year-it is one of my favorites.Linda
