Big Japanese Lily

Heres one that flowered last month. It was labeled "saku yuri" (suku means "blossom" and yuri "lily"), but I have no other information about it. It seems closely related to L. auratum (gold band lily), also known as yama yuri (mountain lily) in Japanese, but it has wider flower segments and doesnt have the spotting of that species. It is a big flower.

Heres a shot with my old wrinkled hand to give you an idea of its size.

Flower and Hand

L. lancifolium, the tiger lily, is just coming on strong here everywhere. I will get some nice shots soon and post those as well. Enjoy. PF

RE: Big Japanese Lily

Great Scott!! I had no idea how big it was until I saw your hand in the 2nd picture. Such a beautiful flower and it gives a lot of "bang for your buck!" LOL

RE: Big Japanese Lily

Wow! I didn't know that lilies that large grew anywhere.

RE: Big Japanese Lily

The flower shows up full size on my monitor (I know because my hand matches your hand on the monitor). I measured it and the bloom is more than 8" across. That's awesome.

RE: Big Japanese Lily

Gorgeous! Is it fragrant?

That is awesome!
