Rosemary, wonderful photos and gorgeous butterflies! I need to know the name of the wonderful flowers in the last 3 shots. Are they irises?

Cailin, those flowers are Dietes grandiflora (close in looks to Dietes vegeta, which I once thought these were). Most call them Fortnight Lilies, because that's about how often they bloom...every fortnight. Occasionally, they are called Japanese Iris or African Iris, but that's just confusing!

Thanks for the name of the plant, Rosemarie. I did a little researching...a South African native, eh? Definitely not hardy in zone 3!! However, I discovered that it can be grown indoors in cold climates, and it does grow from rhizomes, so it possibly could be stored over winter (?). Is it a perennial for you, or do you have to protect it during winter?

I would imagine you could overwinter it, Cailin. Yes, it's a South African native.

Hee hee... a got a good laugh over your "do you have to protect it during winter?" query...as I protect nothing in my garden. :D It's sink or swim around here. We rarely even get a frost & if we do, only a couple plants out in the open are affected. I'm in a sub-jungle zone here! :)
