My moms hens and chicks (which she has had for years and years) started growing like this a few months ago. Does anyone know why or if this is normal?

Yes, they are going to flower. Don't get too excited though, the flowers are nothing much. Mine just did the same thing for the first time. They are now 3 years old. It is interesting but the flowers are rather dull.
