Joe, This is my first year for Love in a Mist also. A friend of mine let me have some of the seed pods from her plants last fall. I just threw the seed in some potting soil in the flower bed in April. They all came up and they look great. Joan is right, wait till you see the seed pods. Vikki
cailinriley: Actually, I got these as a bundle of dried seed pods. I guess you could say I got the cart before the horse. *grin*
JoanMN: Oh how I wish they were raindrops. We haven't had enought rain to wash the dust off of a ladybug. That was taken after the evening watering.
Vikki: See above... The person I got those from said to sew them now and they will come up and grow through the winter and big bigger and better in the spring. Of course she IS in northern Mississippi...
Neil: Since they are generally grown as an annual, you could try sewing some now or on into the Fall. But also plant some in the Spring just in case. I suspect most seed companies would have these. I understand they also come in white, red and violet. I'll be looking for the other colors myself.
I planted the white in my moon bed along with black corn flowers. It was pretty cool! I've got them going again this year with black tulips added. They haven't begun to bloom yet though. There are lots of buds so anyday now!
These will self sow, just leave some seed pods on a few plants and you will have plenty next year. These dried seed pods make a beautiful wreath for the outside.
That is a beautiful photo! Nigella's are beautiful...I got an all Blue packet from T&M last year and was not disappointed. And this year I have sprouts popping up all over...
