Kathy, Your garden is amazing. I'm a big dahlia fan and yours are so beautiful! Where I live we don't have to dig up our dahlia's in the winter. You have done a superb job with your flower beds. I love astilbe also and you have such lovely ones. Thank you so much for sharing your handywork. Do you ever visit the Cottage Garden forum? If not, you should. Be sure to check out the gallery in the Cottage forum...lots of beautiful garden pictures there. Vikki |

Those are beautiful! I had the same thought when I first came to the site. The top line says you don't have access, but the icon below with the name of the album takes you straight to the photo album. The beds are pretty. I live in a hot climate and would never get by with raised beds. How is your growing season in Alaska?

scarletdaisies: growing season is pretty short. june 1-about now. i start dahlias around april 1 in my greenhouse, otherwise, they wouldn't bloom much before first frost.

Wow and I thought Alaska only had snow!!! That was a beautiful collection. How long is your summer? When you say your hottest summer what was you highest temperature? Is selling plants your lively hood or do you just love flowers? I know there are thousands of hours in there.

it starts to warm up in april and usually by mid may we can put out annuals, though i usually wait until june 1. highest temp was probably upper 80s in the shade (so easily up to 100 in full sun). we just sell plants for fun (and to pay for our garden habit). people may be surprised to know there are some incredible gardens in alaska -- the matanuska area near anchorage is actually amazing farming grounds (super deep great soil there).thanks for your comments!
