Hi, does anyone know what type of plant this is?
Do you know what is wrong with it?
It did great all summer, but now the leaf edges are browining. I think my mom may have watered it with some miracle grow drops in the water but that is all I know that has changed for this plant. I keep it out of direct light and "moist," not wet.

That leaf looks very much like my bat plant, which is in the orchid family. Google Tacca Chantrieri, it's scientific name, and see if this is your plant. Beautiful and strange flowers if given the right conditions, it needs lots of water and filtered sun. Should never dry out and that is what looks like happened to these leaves.
