For Apple pie........

....nothing else will do. Bramleys Seedling! Just about ready to pick.

Nothing else? Well, if you can't get Bramleys, then Granny Smiths are pretty good if you add a squeeze of lemon juice.

Many apples on my tree are fattening up! Unfortunately, I don't know what kind they are, as my Dad planted it & liked to play Grafting 101! They are tangy like Granny Smith, yet sweet like Golden Delicious. It's been a long time since I made a homemade pie, with homemade crust...but I'm hoping to put my apple peeler/corer/slicer to use this year!

I have to suggest Newton Wonder - although I have a bramley in my Garden - my mother's Newton Wonder is just superb - apples of a vast size (great for baking) plus a very prolific fruiter - last year we filled 5 washing baskets with apples around a pound in weight each.

As I'm discovering with my Bramley it's comparatively sulky to the Newton
