i found this beautiful seed washed up on the beach in the gulf of mexico while visiting corpus christi last august.
it appears to be burled wood and is very smooth. it is closed very tight without any signs of water seepage.

Hard to tell what size it is. Is it the size of a chestnut or a castor bean seed? It could be either, but is probably neither. Someone at the Texas forum may know, or at the Name That Plant forum.
