I have a family member who has been recently diagnosed with this disease. Anyone know of anyway to slow the progress and improve the prognosis? Willing to try about anything.

Have you checked out milk thistle and dandelion? They help out a lot with helping the liver recover...this is in the liver, right? Not the gall bladder? Either way, check out milk thistle and dandelion... they are showing good results.

RE: primary biliary cirrhosis

PBC is an autoimmune disease causing liver fibrosis and sometimes progressing to cirrhosis and liver failure.

There is some experimental evidence in animals showing that milk thistle reduces fibrosis. One human study was not encouraging.

Chances are that a well-informed liver specialist (hepatologist) knows about milk thistle and can advise the patient whether it would be OK to try.
