Insurance needed for selling at a craft fair?

Posted by iloveroosters zone4-5, NH (My Page) on

I am relatively new to herbalism and am starting out with making my own soaps. I haven't sold any yet, but have given out "samples" to the girls at work to get their comments and suggestions for improvement. I am interested in starting a small business making herbal body care products.

My question is, my friend wants to do a craft fair with me, selling some of the things we make. I am not insured for my products and am hesitant to sell anything, should someone develop a rash from one of my products and sue me. I don't even have a "company name" yet.

Have any of you been down this road before? What are the steps I need to take?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks.

Check out the Guilds. Soapmakers Guilds, etc. They may have a message board or other resources for info that you need.

Here's the market growers forum. I'm sure they'd be helpful there. Good luck! Lynn
