I don't have herpes myself, but after doing research for others, I found this and thought I'd share...
Here is an article presented by the American Society for Microbiology

http://www.webmd.com/genital-herpes/news/20030519/herb-may-be-alternative-herpes-treatment

here is a more 'herbalistic' article

http://www.raysahelian.com/prunellavulgaris.html

here's some on Lemon Balm (melissa officinalis)
by the University of Maryland Medical Center

http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/lemon-balm-000261.htm

and here's one, not a study, but an article by Medical Technologist, you can click on her bio...

Just a few articles for general info.

The best thing for herpes is lycine, which is an amino acid. I haven't found anything else that works better, faster. I am leery to give you a datura balm recipe to numb the sores due to the negative publicity datura has. But it just numbs them, whereas lycine makes them go away faster.
