Procedure for Extracting Benefits from Bay Leaves?

Posted by desertdance Sunset 13 (My Page) on

This morning I went out and observed my Laural tree (bush form) needed pruning AGAIN! I was searching the web and found out it has many medicinal properties, one being it can lower blood sugar. Since a family member is diabetic, I'd like to know how to use this amazing herb for that purpose.

Should I make tea out of it? Find a recipe for a tincture? Dry the leaves, roll them, and have him smoke them? :-) I was kidding about that, but maybe I could put them in foil packets, and use them for aromatic smoke on the BBQ?

Look forward to your suggestions!

First make certain which Laurel you have before doing any thing. There are several kinds of plants that are generically called Laurel. Latin name is best.

I have no clue how to find out which Laurel I have. I purchased it at a nursery, and they told me it was a bay laurel, the kind you use the leaves in recipes. And it is. I dry the leaves, and they are awesome in stews, and things like that. I give them to friends and family, and so far, nobody has died.

I don't want a tree, and it will grow to 80', but mine gets cut all of the time, like daily. It's getting a fat little trunk, but I don't let it grow.
