    Hi Daliah.
If you go to the aussie site:
    http://www.au.gardenweb.com/forums/ozherb/?19677
    and go to the heading:
Herb Robert/Germanium Robertianum, weed or wonder herb.

You will see a site that contains info about the above herb.I have had cfs/me for over 20 years, and have been to over 10 specialists and as many naturopaths with this problem, and none have done any good.
This one herb has changed my life.
Much research has been done on this health problem,
One theory that has proved true in me is a virus called E.B.V.leads the body to THINK it is being attacked, but it isnt, but the body responds in a way that it is tricked into acting as if the virus has affected it.
The result is that we have only 60% red blood cells as normal. For some reason it doesnt make any more than this.We need red blood cells to carry oxygen around to rest of the body.
No-one can say how to bring the red cell count up again, because the body is continuing to be tricked into not producing enough.
But if we dont have enough red cells then our energy will be affected as we need oxygen to burn fuels that creates energy, and not having enough oxygen being carried around lead to fatigue..chronic fatigue or lack of energy because of lack of oxygen being carried around in our body.

If we dont know how to get the red cell count up,then there has to be another way to get more oxygen into our body,so that the red cells we do have, can carry more oxygen.
This is where herb robert comes into play. Its has a rare element called germanium, not rare in that no other plants have it,but that it has it,in such high amounts.

If you go to web sit above it explains it better. But after 20 years i finally understand why i didnt have energy. After taking it for 6 weeks i couldnt believe the differance.

Many around the world think that its a weed,so you mightnt have any trouble locating it.
IT WILL NOT WORK DRIED,it has to eaten freshly picked, which means you will have to grow it.You will need to eat 10 leaves a day..300 a month,so you will need at least 50-70 plant depending on the area that you live in and how fast things grow.
If after you have read the info on the site above and you want to try it,let me know by email and i will send some more info that will help you find a source of this herb.
Dont give up,this may be what you are looking for.

    Kevin,
My sister has CFS. She says she's interested if I'm up to growing the plants. I said I'll try. So I'd like some info on finding a source for these seeds and instructions and estimate if can do it for her. It's a lot of plants.
    Thanks, di

    Daisy,
Are there any possible side affects to that above remedy with Astragalus root and Ginseng root?
    Thanks, di

General warnings on Astragalus are as follows:
Collect and use only the roots  the aerial parts are poisonous. Do not use if suffering from a fever or from any skin disorder. Do not use if suffering from asthma.

General warnings on Ginseng are as follows:
Avoid coffee while taking ginseng. Avoid if suffering from high blood pressure, and if pregnant or breast-feeding. May cause over-stimulation and insomnia. Taking ginseng while suffering from a cold may worsen the symptoms. Do not take gingseng within 2 hours of taking vitamin supplements or Vitamin C. Long-term use may cause menstrual abnormalities and breast tenderness in some women. Excessive use may cause headaches. Not recommended for people suffering from acute inflammatory diseases or depression, or who are under 40 years of age.

Note: Panax Ginseng is the Chinese Ginseng. Panax quinquefolium is the American Ginseng, slightly milder in effect. Eleutheroccoccus senticosus is the Siberian Ginseng, similar to both the above, and which is safe to take while suffering from a cold.

As with any herbal remedy regime, I always strongly recommend consulting a medical professional first. You need to check for contraindications, interactions with other herbs/medications and many other factors before embarking on such a regime.

Check out Herbmed for herb/herb, herb/drug interactions. Or do a search of your own.

Kevin, one of the articles you cited says you can use it dried and powdered. Is it just you that the dry doesn't work for or is it everyone? Sounds good but where can one buy it and if it has to be used fresh what do we do in the winter here?

  • kevin_nsw

    Hi kfgesq,
For some complaints it works dried, but not cfs.
I know this to be true because when my plants died because i was learning how to grow it,i was using dried while the new batch was growing, and i went back to how i felt before.
but when i was on the fresh herb again, the effect of heaps more energy came that i originally had form the fresh.
So fresh is best by far!
Sites like the one below are an example of where you may be able to get info about where they grow wild...and of course make sure the area has not been chemically sprayed!

If you go to the geranium forum and post a query, you may find someone that can help you over there.
If you have cfs and this is the reason you want to grow it,and its to cold in the winter, you can get a hydroponic lamp that you could use indoors. These over here cost about $50.You wont need much space to grow them..about 3 poly fruit boxes.
There may be a herb specialist that might know where to get the seeds or plants.
Also in many states in the US,it is considered a weed,so if you do a search for weed control, you may find an area that they grow wild.
If you do find some wild, make sure that they are not G. maculatum,as some people get these 2 mixed up.
If you need any more info, email me.

I had chronic fatigue syndrome for seven years. I am now cured.

CFS is a complex disease in the body. Has to do with systemic candida attacking the thyroid or thyroid hormones which causes fatique (it's complex - a feedback in a vicious circle) The cure is to break the circle by getting rid of the candida so the thyroid can heal and begin to function normally. My cure was an extremely low carbohydrate diet for TWO YEARS (every time I went off it, I got the symproms back) after two years, I was able to start eating carbohydrates again. I have now been cured for about eight years.

ok what is a candida? and ummmm where on earth did this come from???

    confused in ct

Candida is a yeast which forms part of the normal microscopic flora in humans, but which can in certain cases (especially in immunosuppressed individuals) cause disease.

It has been blamed by some alt med advocates and supplement sellers for causing a huge range of ailments - claims which are unsupported by evidence.

    >>>It has been blamed by some alt med advocates and supplement sellers for causing a huge range of ailments - claims which are unsupported by evidence.false statement. There is a great amount of evidence that candida causes many health problems.

  • rusty_blackhaw

As this article indicates, an industry has sprung up to sell purported anti-Candida products to relieve all manner of symptoms supposedly caused by this yeast.

What's lacking is scientific evidence that the "Candida syndrome" exists. This hasn't stopped the promoters of books, supplements and "diagnostic tests", though.

  • kfgesq

That does not mean that it does not exist though. Lack of "scientific" evidence can be a contradiction in terms. If you think you have yeast ....Go for the cure

    I have CFS/Fibromyalgia..

From my understanding, the candida problems (yeast infections)are also secondary symptoms to the CFS and that the primary cause of CFS was caused by the Epstein Bar Virus (the cause of Mono). I eliminated my repeat yeast infections to start with Acidophylus (sp?) and then completely changed my eating habits (there is info out there on diets just for that). I do still have CFS relapses but never are they as bad as the first bout and there is usually alot of space between. For me it's been a total lifestyle change...taking more time to take care of my self. I don't push it when my body tell me not too ..very hard for me. Somedays are harder than other's as I also have ADHD and stress/anxiety can bring on a CF bout if I don't pit a nub to it..so when school or life gets overwheming I take a break or suffer the consequences .. I'd rather prevent a relapse and be a day behind in school work vs. trudge thru it an be a week behind!!
    Just my story....

    Hi Kevin,

Ok, I'm interested in more info and resources on the Herb Robert plant and you said to email you if we wanted more info. However I don't see your email listed. I live in the Pacific NW and might even have these plants growing on or near our property but I'd really like to get hold of some seeds just to be on the safe side. I have had fibromyalgia for years and once in a while Chronic Fatigue will rear it's head as well. It would be so lovely to have tons of energy! Any help on resources for this seed?

    Thanks,

    Itaya

I was diagnosed after a car accident and a fall that caused a mild concussion, with sleep apnea and fibromyalgia. That was 7 years ago. Lots of meds and no good results. Wonder if it might be CFS instead?
