Chinese herbal drug recall

More problems with herbal mixes manufactured in China - an herbal drug has been recalled following an infant death.

The drug (Yinzhihuang) was being used to treat neonatal jaundice (in the U.S., the frontline treatment for this problem is phototherapy using fluorescent lighting, a very safe procedure).

Seeing that yinzhihuang (typically a mixture of herbs including Artemisia capillaris) is sold over the Internet for liver problems, potential buyers researching it might want to consider the risks involved in buying a product made in China or which has ingredients of unknown origin.

RE: Chinese herbal drug recall

eric, How many american drugs were recalled this year. A lot more than 1 as you can see in the link below.
Why don't you go to a forum where you can contribute instead of spamming for the American health care system. Which is one of the most rotten in the world.Remember it is rated 37th inthe world by the World Health Care Organization. France is #1 AND IT COSTS CONSIDERABLY LESS. Even counting taxes that funds it. Cuba is #38 right behind the US. That alone tell what kind of 3rd world health care we have. The US does rank #1 in something tho. We pay more for our health care than any other country in the world. eric is a doctor in this rotten health care system. Is anyone surprised?

Remember you'd better research all medical procedures and medicines from traditional western as well as herbal medication you take. The life you save may be your own. I would'nt listen to any medical persons advice on this forum. They are nothing more than spammers trying to push a failed health system down your throats.
Chantix is of course not being taken off the market by Pfizer. And of course the FDA ALLOWED the chinese drug Heparen in the USA.

The problem was drugs tainted by cheap Chinese manufacturing and not caught by the system and your solution is to go to a system with less watching for contaminants and less ability to find them in the tests that are done. Also to attack Eric and I, typically when we say something big we give a reference, which doesn't seem to work to me.

The best response to the sort of tu quoque argument made in oakleif's post is to note that even if one buys the argument that mainstream medicine is the Greatest Evil of our times, it still doesn't excuse supplement dealers and alt med providers for their wrongs and inadequacies.

I would like to be able to buy pure and effective supplements; unfortunately our laws and their enforcement are severely lacking, so we have to depend on warnings once contaminated herbal drugs and supplements reach the market.

It's still a good idea to be extremely wary of any Chinese-manufactured drug or supplement, given the lack of ethics and oversight involved in their sale and "regulation".
