I've been watching this & am fascinated. VERY different than my life. Tonite when they graduated I realized how much I took graduating high school for granted, college too for that matter.

In my family it's the women who've been the college grads, the very 1st one was in the early 1900s. I'm Jewish & tho' quite secular, that's one cultural aspect of Judaism that was strong in my family, the women WILL be educated. Was never an if, more of a how (financially) & where. I'd wanted to go to Art School & was told no, ended up going to college in Art (Textile Design, including selling my blood plasma to help pay expenses, on top of scholarships, work study programs & loans). Not easy, but not harrowing like this boys' time was just to get thru High School.

The combination of poverty & alcohol abuse is hair-raising, isn't it?

Ironic how Cody (the kid who lost both parents) ended up w/ multiple family units to help support him emotionally, vs. Chris, who technically had 2 living parents, but didn't have their support & what heartache you could see that was for him. Broke my heart to see Chris unable to pursue college; a bright kid w/ a lot of potential & certainly perseverence.

I too was taken by how expressive they were: Chris, so in touch w/ his feelings & articulate abt them too. Cody, not so verbal abt his feelings, but very much so abt his relationship w/ God & how that saved him. Thank God for that, otherwise he might have been so hugely lost!!

I saw the conclusion tonite, sounds like maybe you didn't so I shan't give any more of it away, sorry if I did!

Karen-I told Gil I really wish we could be Chris's support. Tony's grandmother sure rescued him. If all troubled kids had a mentor like her, the world would be a much better place.
