Anyone have a ceramic cooktop?

We just purchased a new wall oven and cooktop. I chose the creamic top because I was so sick of the coils on the old one. They are a pain to clean if there are spill etc. They just don't look clean to me. Anyway, I am getting conflicting info on what type of pots I need to use. I have seen that only enameled bottoms should be used. One salesman said he recc. only using pans that have the "coils" in the bottoms. Then I have seen that as long as the pots are smooth they are fine. You just aren't suppossed to slide them on the ceramic. Anyone have one and what type of pots do you use?

You have to use pans that are not warped in any way. The surface of the pan must meet the cooktop or it will not get hot. We have cuisinart cookware and it works just fine. Anything that has warped even just a bit will not work well on the cooktop. It's not scratching the cooktop that is the problem, it is getting even heat. We have had a smoothtop and do lots and lots of cooking and we have never scratched the top. I also have spendy pans that have coils on the bottom that work well. Unfortunately, you do need to use good heavy cookware.

RE: Anyone have a ceramic cooktop?

Warning Warning Warning Will Robinson!!! :) I HAD one of these stoves and got rid of it because of the issue with the pans. I bought a new home and wanted one of these stoves but was never informed about pans from the guy who assisted me with my home selections.

All my pans are generic cheapies that I bought over the years.
My favorite is a nonstick wok that has an alloy bottom.

Anyway, after about 6 months I developed a burn ring around my main burner. I would clean and clean it but it never went away. It kept getting bigger and bigger to the point that it was pretty unsightly. Looked like the pealing paint on the wall.

Anyway, no warranty on the stove top replacement. The glass can't be changed out so I was stuck with it. I was able to unload it at a garage sale for $75. Went out and bought a gas stove. No coils...no flat top......easy to clean...and uses gas. Perfect!!!

So my advice is NEVER use Alloy bottom pans on a ceramic flattop stove.

copperware on ceramic stoves

I have a new ceramic top stove and am wondering if anyone has any trouble cooking with copper pots on their's.
The burners seem to get very hot, cools down, then repeats the cycle. Does this cause a problem to the pot?

I have had a ceramic cooktop now for 4 yrs in my current house. Had one in my previous home as well.I use cooking pots with copper bottoms with no problems. My burners cycle with the same very hot(burner glows red)then returns to its original color. I also have other cookware(some cast iron) I use with no problems. Just make sure they have flat bottoms and dont slide them across the burners.

RE: Anyone have a ceramic cooktop?

Does anyone have experience with a Thermador induction cooktop with the Silver Mirrored Finish? My question is about the appearance after a year or two of use. I have a friend with a white glass conventional electric cooktop and the burners have all turned brown. Don't know if this is from the electricity burning the glass or from the pans. In any case, I would be very upset if I spend this much money on a product for it's beauty and then find the beauty is destroyed by use. I welcome any comments and info about this product.
