| This is nowhere near as important as whether the toilet paper is on the roll going over the top or up from the bottom, but, I think we better talk about it. It's good to get important issues out in the open.
Do you use the "inside bread" and save the first end piece to keep the loaf "closed" until you get down to the two ends? Or do you eat the end piece first and go straight down the loaf? In case things get too heated, I'm going to refrain from expressing my opinion and will be an impartial referee if needed. |

| I save the end pieces for last. When there are only those two straggler ends remaining in the bag, easy meals are decided for me! I think that bread ends make the best crumbs. Last night, I used crumbled up bread ends to make salmon cakes/croquettes. Last week, I used them for crab cakes. |

| The end pieces of a loaf / baguette are called 'garconnia' (or something like that) in Italian and are highly prized around the house as the tasty bits they are. Rachel, when are you doing that again? |

| Funny question Purple, whatever made you think if it? Jeff are you sure that's in Italian ('cause in French it's partly the word for waiter - garcon)). Maybe it translates to something like waiters tidbits? I tend to leave the first end piece there, especially if it's very thick, & might slice it in two & make a sandwich from that when the loaf is finished. |

| I thought it would make for an interesting "fluffy" discussion. The issue was brought to my attention recently here at home. I can't say more or risk compromising my impartial stand, but let's just say until that moment, it never occurred to me there was any other way but the way I've always done it. It was an enlightening, one of those tiny little humbling moments when you are reminded you are NOT the only person on the earth. |

| Hi all, I am glad to see that there is at least some activity over here. The toilet paper roll should always go over. I saw a tee shirt one time that illustrated it. I now save the first end piece only because my wife taught me to. lol Before that I just started at one end and ate until I got to the heel on the other end. |

| Hi, Larry, me too! Interesting, some evidence the divide has to do with gender... |
|
| Whoa! I just discovered the off-topic side! LOL. I always just used them in order, from first heel to last. I've since switched, after living with a man who felt VERY strongly about saving the heels as "lids," as you say. He insists that it keeps the bread from going stale. |
