Unidentified House Plant Needs Pruning

Posted by Foxthorn none (My Page) on

I bought this house plant a couple of years ago at home depot and I'm not sure what it is. It has gotten progressively taller and all of its growth is at the top. I would like to cut it back and encourage more growth at the bottom if possible, but without knowing what kind of plant it is, I can't look up pruning advice. Can someone help me identify this plant? (And if you have pruning advice, I'd love to hear that too!) Thanks!

It looks like an umbrella plant. There are two different plants often called Umbrella Plants. This link explains how to distinguish them: http://plantsarethestrangestpeople.blogspot.com/2011/04/incredible-hulk-schefflera-actinophylla.html
