Narrow Leaved Ivy

| Hi Everyone, I hope someone here can help me with a plant search. About 10 years ago I saw a potted ivy at a farmer's market in San Francisco. It could probably be used as a houseplant or planted outdoors in the Bay Area. Instead of having the fat rounded lobes of a typical english ivy (I'm guessing it was one) it's leaves were incredibly skinny and sharply pointed. They resembled a star badge a sheriff would wear. Also kind of similar to those japanese maple cultivars with sharp thin lobes. I've been haunted ever since. Any idea what it was or where I can get one? Thanks. |

| Have you looked at the Needlepoint Ivy varieties? Google the images using that common name. |

| sounds like an Aralia that used to be called Dizygotheca. |

| To greenlarry: It didn't have teeth. 3 long triangular stiff lobes in front and a tiny lobe or point I believe on each back side suspended on a thin petiole. Think small maple leaf if that helps. To rhizo: I'll look that up, thanks. |

| This person apparently loves ivies and has many pics of diff leaves. There are a ton of designer ivy cultivars out there. |

| Purple, that link reminded me of the Bird's Foot Ivies....I think that they are different from the needlepoints....not sure. Floramakros, if you'll do a quick search on either of those groups of ivies, you might just find your 'sheriff's badge '. There are many, many different ivies in the category of Needlepoint and/or Bird's Foot. I'd do a link for you but I haven't figured out how to do attachments while I'm on my Kindle Fire. |

| It was definitely a member of the needlepoint group of cultivars, they look incredibly different from the species, thanks so much for your help purple&everyone! If anyone has any pictures of them please post them so people know what we're talking about. |

| Someone sent me this pic via email (I gave a pretty good description considering I've only seen it once before 10 years ago! ;-), compare the shape of the lobes to your typical english ivy, what a difference! I've also learned that luckily most catalogs/web nurseries that carry several english ivy varieties usually have one listed and they're inexpensive. |

| You DID give a good description. The needlepoints are quite common; you should have no problem finding them. I'd even prowl around your local garden centers / nurseries. |

| i have one with narrow leaves that is called 'asterisk' - that matches your description. if you go to ivy.org - they have a long list with pictures. so you can find the one that mostly resembles yours. |
