    Same plant in the same soil and same pot for at least twenty years. Maybe the soil had compacted ? Causing the pot to break ?

    Oh......
    That or that the roots caused the pot to break....
    No plant likes being in the same soil for 20 years....

    I was hoping for a little more info too. Hard to believe Pothos roots could break a pot, but I've never not repotted a plant for that long. If the pot is plastic, it probably just degraded. This happens faster in sun, but very few of my plastic pots are that old, they eventually crack at the lip one day when I go to pick them up...
