| I still have a poinsettia from the holidays and right now its sending up new leaves like crazy. What if I never fertilize it? Is that an automatic death sentence? |

| If you'd like to keep your poinsettia for a long time, you'll need to take care of it as you would any house plant. Most people treat these plants as disposable seasonal color, but others are intrigued enough by them to keep them going for years. The process of getting them to rebloom IS a process, but a do-able one for anyone really interested. We have (at least) a couple of people who frequent this forum, posting pictures of their reblooming poinsettias for us all to enjoy year after year. |

| What *I* do is in the spring once the plant starts to look rough I cut the stems back in half. When new leaves start to show and grow I start to lightly fertilize. I like them as a foliage plant and don't care if they turn color in the fall/winter. |

| Once the flowers fade and the plant starts looking tattered cut it back and feed it like tommyr said but I'd also repot it. The soil it comes with is much too peaty. I summer them outside in full sun with the pot sunk in the ground. In Texas you may need to keep a closer eye on it. tj |
