Several years ago, this plant died - or so I thought. That Spring, I threw it on the compost pile and forgot about it. Several months later, I saw it trying to grow, and thought it deserved a second chance. It's never played dead again! I've given quite a few starts away, and this year divided it in half when I brought it back in for the winter. It is Calathea lancifolia, and I've heard it can get really big. Mine never gets particularly large, but at least it lives...and each leaf looks like it is hand-painted.
