They might be able to survive indoors, but I would expect that you probably will never be able to get them to bloom indoors unless you want to rig up supplemental lighting.

Soggy doesn't sound good to me.

I thought it would do better in the soggy soil as its used to having its roots submersed under water. Should I keep it on the drier side?

Under normal conditions, it goes dormant during the winter.

Why did you remove them from the pond??. If you have I' versicolor they are very tolerant of cold.. most water plants need direct sun to do well though they can be kept dormant in the house . I'd wait until spring and plant them back out
Since they are water plants keep them very moist and as cool as possible.. Be sure to keep them in pots in the water garden they are incredibly invasive . I have to reduce them by half twice a year lol Mine are starting to bud already . Ever found a way to make them more wind resistant??. Every year they grow up produce those attractive flowers and promptly get blown down lol
