I have a hanging planter containing 8 spider plants and they have all developed a long neck, extending over the sides of the pot. I kind of like the way it looks, but these plants have been in there a long time and would probably benefit from some new soil mix. Would you leave them in there? Can you cut them at the neck and root in either water or soil? If I do that, will new leaves start from the remaining "necks" left in the pot?

| I think I'd split it up and repot the sections. The hanging parts look prone to breaking off anyway to me. |

| Looks like a caudex, lol. Are the necks/roots? growing from off-shoots or mom plant? |

| Looks to me like those spider plants got too big for their britches! :D I'd be willing to bet that once you get under that soil, you'll find nothing but a big tangle of tuberous Spider roots! I've never tried cutting the top off of a spider plant, but spider plants are so resilient that I'd be willing to bet that as long as you put some rooting hormone on the cut ends that they'd do just fine! :) |

| hi, i love spider plants. some people just dont get it because they arent very colorful and showy (my husband being one of those typed that dont get it) anyways, i used to have a nice collection of plants but then we had to vacate our home fairly quickly and i lost most of my plants in the move. im looking on here for anyone who would be willing to share some babies off their plants so that i could get back to collecting? im hoping for it to be possibly considered a gift from one plant lover to another because i dont have much to offer in return but if need be i will offer to crochet a plant hanger for you. ive just started making my own plant hangers, and i dont know how to do macrame yet but i can crochet and they are turning out pretty nice. i hope that i can start my collection back up, i live on a very limited budget because im a stay at home mom so i cant go out and buy what i want, and this would make my day to be able to have lots of plants again. thank you. |
