Mike, what did you post? First is Aglaonema? Second is? I'll die if I don't find out what the third is! Well, not really, but please tell us! A Tradescantia?

  • ozarkia

Hi Purple! I'm mostly a lurker, and maybe commandeering the response, but I can confirm that the third is a Tradescantia. I was going to post photos of mine 'til I got to the end of the thread. I got some from Pepper's last year, and they list it as "TRADESCANTIA ALBIFLORA MINIMA RAINBOW." I was actually, as a lurker, gonna hassle you about whether you'd like to do any trades for it! (Or also for the variegated T. pallida, which is purple/neon pink stripes in the way only a monocot can pull off, if you don't already have it.)

That second of mike's photos looks like variegated oleander to me...is it, Mike?
    They are all beautiful.

With most of another summer under our belts, what's 'pink' out there? I've made a list of everything mentioned here already, and added a bunch of others. Most genuses have many candidates, so most of these are just a genus name... some are whole leaves of pink, some are little flashes of color on the leaves of an otherwise plain green plant.

    Aglaonema Chinese evergreen
    Aloe
    Alternanthera calico plant
    Anigozanthos
    Aptenia
    Begonia
    Breynia
    Bromeliad
    Caladium
    Calathea
    Cissus discolor Rex Begonia vine
    Coleus
    Columnea
    Cordyline Ti plant
    Crassula
    Cryptanthus
    Dracaena marginata 'Tricolor'
    Echeveria
    Euphorbia formerly Pedilanthes
    Ficus
    Fittonia nerve or mosaic plant
    Fuchsia
    Graptopetalum
    Hemigraphis waffle plant
    Hoya
    Hypoestes polka-dot plant
    Impatiens
    Ipomoea batatas sweet potato vine
    Kalanchoe
    Iresine
    Ludesia
    Maranta prayer plant
    Oxalis
    Pachyveria
    Peperomia
    Perilla 'Magilla'
    Philodendron
    Pilea
    Plectranthus
    Pseuderanthemum
    Saintpaulia African violet
    Schlumbergera Thanksgiving cactus
    Sedeveria
    Sedum stonecrop
    Stromanthe
    Syngonium arrowhead vine
    Trachelospermum asiaticum Asiatic Jasmine
    Tradescantia fluminensis variegated

Excel put them in ABC order for us, yay. Anything else?

Here's a fun picture of my Ti plant from around April '11. This is my longest-living plant, I've had it since August of 2007. I thought it would be fun to have a houseplant in my dorm. It survived my first roommate peeing on it and then trying to mask the "evidence" with cologne.

(Freshman year of college wasn't the first time I tried my hand at houseplants. When I was in elementary school, I had a large houseplant collection but killed them off due to overwatering. A fifth grader getting crazy with a watering can...imagine that.)

Of course, the plant had its finest hour right when I had to move out. I've been trying since then to get it back to this color. Being in a below ground, north-facing window was not kind to it. I think it's got some glory days ahead of it in its new home.

While I'm at it, here's a picture of my currently blooming AV! Another distressed plant rack find (from 2009, I think), but admittedly one that was hardly distressed.

Such pretty plants! I grow many pink plants too! Especially house plants so I can keep my indoor garden colorful in the winter. I'll she a couple photos. The first one is my earth star that I got from lowe's in April. I'm glad I moved most of my plants outside for the summer, because I got amazing results because of long hours of natural sun light.

How do you keep the variegation from fading?

  • Tiffany, purpleinopp Z8b Opp, AL

It does fade. The new leaves are pink for a while, then fade to green.

  • jamilalshaw26

OK. I was thinking something was wrong with mine!

  • Tiffany, purpleinopp Z8b Opp, AL

There are supposedly various cultivars, but that's what mine has always done for the 8-9 yrs I've had it. IDK its' cultivar name, if one might apply.

Coleus 'Indian Summer' with pink in its' leaves, and a little pink earth star (Cryptanthus) to the right. Not very noticeable but there's also a pink flower on the khaki-colored Begonia 'Castaway' to the right of the center Coleus.
