Walking Iris and boston fern as companions

Hello,

I've been lurking on these forums for years, sucking out the wealth of information here for my garden and houseplants, but I've finally found a question that I don't think has been asked before!

I have a young walking iris planted in a large, self-watering hanging basket in the corner of our living room (away from the windows). I also have a large Boston fern planted in similar basket in the bathroom under a skylight.

The Boston fern is due for splitting and re-potting, and I was wondering if I could plant some small sections in and around my walking iris?

The walking iris is still young (only two fans and so far has only given us one flower) and the pot is a bit barren, so I thought some ferns would look nice.

However, I'm worried that the Boston fern would crowd out the iris. Does any one have any ideas?
