Good call on the wrong pot with no drainage. I hate it when retailers sell plants potted up this way. A slightly smaller pot would do just fine, one WITH drainage holes, HaHa.
I use Miracle Gro potting mix for Cactus & Succulents for my money tree, and it worked just fine. It doesn't stay soggy and provides excellent drainage. The problem with roots rotting arises from a when plant's roots can't breathe. Access to fresh air is just as vital as access to fresh water.
Money trees love lots of light, so if you plan on growing it inside, a South-facing window with plenty of bright light would be your best option. Or an East or West window would do just fine too. Watering it about once a week.

Now that it's FINALLY warm enough at nighttime, here where I live, I moved my money tree outdoors and into full sunlight. It stays there all Spring/Summer/Autumn, and it loves it. Just as long as I keep it well watered, when it gets too hot outside.
