New to Plants - Money Tree

I want to learn to care for plants but am having the worst luck.
I had bamboo plants in the past but both died, one from root rot. I'm basically ignorant and there's too much wrong info to be found online so I'm turning to you guys.

Last week I'd thought I would try my luck at plants again. I know money trees are pretty popular and are claimed to be 'easy' but the more I learn the more I'm doubting how easy they are. I bought a nice healthy braided one from Meijer but the pot had no drainage, was deep, and there was gravel on top. All of which is wrong for this plant.

My questions:
Is it healthy? How do I keep a braided money tree trim and to stay this shape/size? What potting mix is best? Can I get it premade in a store? Is it okay to plant it in a draining pot with some form of rock/pebble on the bottom in place of mesh? Do I need to mist it? Fertilize it?

Any help is appreciated!
