Can anyone tell me what plant this is?

I sort of inherited this plant. I was told to just water it once a week. At some point it was about 7 feet tall but all the leaves turned brown. My gardner wasn't sure what type of plant it was and told me I could cut it in half (it was getting way too tall). Just wandering what I should feed her or what nutrients to add. Got a bad camera. Sorry. And the file is upside down..oops
